State Of The State
By: STATE REPRESENTATIVE LYNN OLMAN
Columbus – The following statement can be attributed in part or whole to State Representative Lynn Olman (R-Maumee) in response to Governor Bob Taft’s third State of the State address:
“Governor Taft today spoke of many issues that affect Northwest Ohio – from improving our schools to providing support for Ohio’s working men and women. The plans he offered today lay a solid foundation from which to work.
Governor Taft offered an excellent summation of his legislative initiatives over the last two years, and his priorities for the upcoming General Assembly.
Most often our environment drives the public policy arena. The Governor highlighted his emphasis on creating and retaining over 35,000 lost jobs through the Job Creation Tax Credit, $2.2 billion in tax cuts over the past two years, and his $10 billion plan to rebuild Ohio’s schools.
In his new agenda, the Governor emphasized his new method for funding schools compiled with establishing standards, assessments and accountability for schools. Furthermore, I was pleased with the Governor’s acknowledgment that Ohio must provide new emphasis and funding to become a breeder of new high-tech jobs.
Finally, with so many of our citizens suffering from the high cost of natural gas, Governor Taft announced “Project Thaw”, a one-time home heating credit of up to $250 for families and seniors of modest means.
I applaud Governor Taft’s offer of strong leadership on these many difficult issues facing our state, and look forward to working with him over the next two years to add some meat to the bones he outlined in today’s State of the State address.”
